Your Privacy Matters
Journal Insights, operated by Minotaur Mechanics LLC, is built with your privacy at its core. Your journal entries are deeply personal, and we treat them with the utmost care and respect. This policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information.
Information We Collect
Account Information
When you first open the app, a unique anonymous identifier is created and stored securely in your device's Keychain. We do not require or collect your name, email address, or Apple ID. If you choose to enable the horoscope feature, we also collect your birthday or date of birth, which is stored only on your device.
Journal Content
Your journal entries, including text, voice recordings, and photos, are stored securely on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. This content never leaves your device unless you choose to export it. Voice recordings are transcribed on your device at the time of capture using Apple's Speech Recognition framework. Photos are classified and scanned for text (OCR) on your device at the time of capture using Apple's Vision framework. The resulting transcriptions, classification labels, and recognised text are stored alongside your journal entry on your device. We also collect mood ratings (on a 1–5 scale) that you log through the App, stored locally on your device.
Usage Data
We collect basic, anonymised usage information such as app opens and features used to improve the App. This data is collected via TelemetryDeck and cannot be linked back to your identity or journal content. Crash reports are collected via Sentry to help us maintain app stability; crash data is not linked to your identity. If you enable notifications, we also collect your push notification device token to deliver insights and reminders.
How We Use Your Information
- To provide AI-powered insights based on your journal entries
- To send you notifications and reminders (with your permission)
- To improve the App and develop new features
- To provide customer support when you reach out
AI Processing
Your journal entries are processed by AI to generate personalised insights. This processing happens primarily on your device using Apple's Foundation Models framework. When on-device processing is not available, a secure proxy fallback is used; in this case, your content is transmitted securely and is not stored on external servers or used to train AI models.
Voice recordings are transcribed to text on your device using Apple's Speech Recognition framework. Photos are analysed on your device using Apple's Vision framework, which performs image classification and text recognition (OCR). The resulting transcriptions, classification labels, and recognised text are stored with your journal entry and used to generate personalised insights. Original voice audio and photo image data are processed locally on your device and are not transmitted to external servers for this analysis.
Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data:
- All journal content is stored on your device and encrypted by iOS data protection
- Network communications use TLS 1.3 encryption
- Your anonymous identifier is stored securely in iOS Keychain
- We regularly audit our security practices
Data Retention
Your journal entries are stored on your device as long as you use the App. If you delete your account within the App, all your journal content is permanently deleted from your device immediately. You can export your journal data at any time from the App settings.
Data Storage
All your journal content is stored locally on your device. No journal data is stored on external servers. Anonymised analytics data processed by TelemetryDeck and crash reports processed by Sentry are handled according to their respective privacy policies.
Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
- RevenueCat: For subscription management (purchase data is handled according to RevenueCat's privacy policy)
- Apple Foundation Models: For on-device AI-powered insights, with a secure proxy fallback when on-device processing is not available (journal content is not used for training)
- Sentry: For crash reporting and app stability monitoring (crash data is not linked to your identity)
- TelemetryDeck: For anonymised usage analytics to improve the App (event data is not linked to your journal content)
These services have their own privacy policies governing how they handle data. We require that all third-party service providers maintain data protection standards consistent with this Privacy Policy and applicable law.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access your personal data
- Export your journal entries
- Delete your account and all associated data
- Opt out of non-essential notifications
State Privacy Rights
If you are a resident of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, or another state with consumer privacy legislation, you may have additional rights under applicable law, including:
- The right to know what personal data we collect and how it is used
- The right to request deletion of your personal data
- The right to opt out of the sale of your personal data (we do not sell your data)

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at support@journalinsights.app. We will respond to verifiable requests within 45 days as required by applicable law.
